이소정 (Eng: Lee Sojung) is the main vocalist of LADIES' CODE.

Biography[]

Sojung was born and raised in Wonju, South Korea. Her birthday is September 3rd, 1993.[2] She is an only child.[3]

Education[]

She attended Comkid, Myeongnyun Elementary School, Sangji Girls Middle School, Bukwon Girls High School, and Dankook University.[3] She majored in Living Music Studies.[4]

Pre-debut[]

She was a contestant on Mnet's The Voice of Korea in 2012, finishing in the top 8.[5] Four of Sojung's songs from the show were officially released; "2 Different Tears", "In the Rain", "Memory Loss", and "No More".

Post-debut[]

On November 27th, 2013, Sojung was featured on a P-TYPE song with rapper San E, called "Twisted".

Sojung was featured on two episodes of King of Mask Singer, on February 21st and 28th, 2016. Her identity wasn't revealed until the latter episode. Two of her songs from the show were officially released; "Blue In You", a duet with Lee Taesung, and "If You Come Back". Later that year, she was featured in a Jung Key song called "I Don't Want", released on June 9th. Starting on July 19th, she competed in a JTBC singing competition called Girl Spirit. Several studio versions of her songs from the show were released; "Don't Be Shy", "I Don't Love You", "24 Hours + NoNoNo", "I Dream", and "One's Way Back".

She made her solo debut on May 4th, 2017, with the song "Why Did We Break Up? (Better than Me)". Later, she appeared in a MIND U song, called "A Break Up Song That's Like a Love Song", which was released on July 13th.

On January 4th, 2018, she was featured on Han Heejun's song "DEEP INSIDE". She had her second comeback as a solo artist on March 8th with the single Stay Here. On November 1st, she started her own YouTube channel called 소정의 선물 (Eng: Sojung's Gift).[6]

She appeared on the first part of the soundtrack of the drama Possessed with the song "Searching Me". It was released on March 7th, 2019. She also released a song on the seventh part of the Angel's Last Mission: Love soundtrack, called "Perfume". The OST was released on July 3rd. Shortly after, on July 26th, she was featured on the soundtrack Love Affairs in the Afternoon OST Part.2 with the song "Yesterday". On November 8th, Sojung was featured on the title track of Paper Planet's debut EP HEAVEN. She also sang "As If Scattered in the Cold Wind", which appears on the soundtrack for the drama Queen - Love and War. It was released on December 15th.

Post-Polaris[]

Her contract with Polaris Entertainment expired on February 17th, 2020.[7][8]

Sojung and MKPBand collaborated on a single called Sojung X MKPBand. It was released on May 14th, and she helped compose and write lyrics for both songs. On August 22nd, she released a single called ISLAND, her first solo release without management. D-CRUNCH's O.V. released a song on his SoundCloud featuring Sojung called "Hint" on September 11th. Sojung also released a song on the first part of the web drama The Present Has Arrived's soundtrack called "Walkin' on air" on October 6th. Sojung will star in the drama as the character LaLa. Sojung was a contestant on the JTBC singing competition Sing Again, where she was known as the 11th Singer. The show gives a second chance to underrated singers "who are forgotten, standing alone after leaving a group for the first time, [or] have failed to succeed despite their superb singing skills".[9] Her audition episode premiered on November 30th, where she sang "The Flight".

Sojung made it to the Top 6 of Sing Again with the song "As We Live" on January 26th, 2021, and finished the show in 4th place. On February 19th, Sojung released the single If You Were Still Here. Soon after, she was featured on the Mouse OST Part.1 with the song "It's Alright", released March 11th. She appears on the Scripting Your Destiny OST as well, with the song "Skyline". It was released on March 26th.

Drama House Studio[]

On April 14th, 2021, it was announced that Sojung signed a contract with JTBC Studios (later renamed Studio LuluLala, or SLL), under their label Drama House Studio.[10][11]

The compilation album for the third episode of JTBC's Famous Singers, Famous Singers Part.1, was released a few days later, on April 17th. Sojung was featured on the songs "The White Magnolia" and "An Unfinished Song". On the next episode, she sang the song "To Me", released on the album Famous Singers Part.2 on April 24th. The following week, on May 1st, she was featured on the Bossam-Steal the Fate OST Part.1 with the song "Just for One Day". On July 14th, Sojung announced that her fandom name is Dajung. A few months later, she released her first single under JTBC Studios called Nothing Between Us on September 26th. On October 20th, Sojung teamed up with the Northeast Asian History Foundation with the song "ISLAND(Dokdo, Beautiful Island of Korea)". Sojung collaborated with the Naver Webtoon "The Forbidden Marriage" for the single Sad Ending, released on November 9th. She later appeared on the Moonshine OST Part.2 with "Love Me Again" on December 27th, and the Call Me OST Part.2 with "A Small Room" on December 31st.

Sojung released her single Love in the Clouds on January 15th, 2022. On March 26th, Sojung's debuted in her first musical, a Korean adaption of the musical LIZZIE. She played the titular character, Lizzie Borden. On March 31st, she appeared on the show Sing Forest's OST Part.1 with the songs "Aloha" and "Because It's You". The third part of the OST was released on April 14th, and featured the song "Snow Flower". She was featured on GODAK's single I'm Fine, released on May 10th. On July 4th, she was featured on LAS's single Everywhere on the song "Everywhere", as well as its English and stripped versions. Soon after, she appeared on the fifth part of the Why Her soundtrack with the song "I'm here", released on July 9th. Two remixed versions of LAS's "Everywhere" were released on July 25th on Everywhere Remixes. Sojung released a single on August 9th called The Song I Loved. The following day, she was on the New Festa EPISODE.10 compilation album with "Magic Carpet Ride", a duet with violinist Danny Koo. On September 3rd, she appeared on Immortal Songs with the song "Where Are You". Her song "Same Pillow..." appeared in the OST for the audio drama Welcome to Hugh-Nam-dong Bookstore on October 6th. She also was featured on the The Golden Spoon OST Part.10 on November 12th with the song "Missing You". On November 17th, Sojung starred in her first show of the musical Dracula as the character Lorraine.

On January 3rd, 2023, Sojung's song from Secret Workshop, "I'll Hug You", was released as a single. A month later, her single Hello was released on February 2nd. Her song "The One Who Wins" appeared on the True to Love OST Part 3 on April 20th. On May 29th, Sojung was a part of DSP Media's Remake Project "A Remembrance Song After Parting" with the single The Day.

Trivia[]

  • She was a cheerleader in high school.
  • After appearing on The Voice Korea, Sojung developed anorexia and didn't have her menstrual period for a year as a result. She was recovering throughout the early days of LADIES' CODE.[12]
  • Before LADIES' CODE's debut, Sojung shared a dorm room with Ashley.[13] Afterwards, she shared a room with Zuny until 2014.[14] The members then each had their own room until they left Polaris in 2020.[15]
  • Sojung loves drinking, especially wine. She also loves zombies and leopard print.[15]
  • She had a pet bearded dragon named 블리 (Eng: Vely or Beulli). Her name came from the hangul for "Lavely" (레블리).[16]
    • At Sojung's "Spring Stage" concert on May 2nd, 2021, she revealed that Vely had recently passed away.
  • She is the only member with a drivers' license.[17]
  • Sojung auditioned for a musical during LADIES' CODE promotions but it didn't work out.[18]
    • She had dreamed of being a musical actress since she was a child.[18]
